Soya Chunks Curry - Source of Protein for Vegetarian!
Soya Chunks are an excellent source of protein and rich in fiber. It is also known as Vegetarian Chicken as it is the best
protein diet for a Vegetarian!
When we were kids, my mother used to add Soya chunks to the veg biryani and serve this as chicken biryani and we kids enjoyed our meal with a yummy Raita and Papad that was served with the Biryani.
I made Soya Chunks Curry which was served with Coconut Rice. I like to eat Spicy food and to add that flavour I blended the masala and sauted them in oil...and the soya chunks were cooked with Potato in this gravy.
I could not stop laughing when I served this dish to my husband and he asked me is this Mutton Curry? :).
This is how I made this curry...
Ingredients :
Soya Chunks - 100 gm packet
Potato - 1
Finely cut Onion - 2 tbsp
Finely cut Coconut - 1 tbsp
Curry leaves
Corrainder leaves

Turmeric Powder - 1/4th tsp
Oil - 1 to 2 tbsp
For Masala (Grind to smooth paste):
Onion - 1
Ginger - 1 medium piece
Garlic - 4 to 5 cloves
Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
Corriander Powder - 1 tbsp
Green Chillies - 2 - 3
Tomato - 1
Chicken Masala - 1 tbsp
Pepper Powder 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
Fennel Seeds (Badi Sauf) - 1tsp
Method :
In hot water cook the Soya Chunks for 5
minutes. Transfer this to cold water
and squeeze out the water and again wash in cold water and squeeze out the
excess water. In a cooker, add oil and saute the fresh ground Masala and turmeric well till the oil separates from
the masala.
Add little Corrainder leaves. Now add the soya chunks and Potatoes cut into
medium pieces, enough salt and saute for some time. Add enough water and pressure cook upto 3
whistles.
Once the curry is ready, temper Cut onions and
coconut pieces till golden brown & add curry leaves.. Transfer this to the curry and garnish with corriander leaves and serve
with Rice, Chapati, Appam, Dosa etc.
