Coconut Chutney
Chutney
is a great accompaniment with Idli / Dosa... In South India, chutney is normally
made from Coconut.
When
we were kids and visited Kerala, my grandmother used to grind the Chutney on
the Ammi Kallu (On the stone). The taste of this chutney is also awesome as
grinding on the Kallu gives it a unique taste!
This
is one chutney that I normally make at home but in a grinder...
Ingredients :
Fresh Grated Coconut - 1 cup
Garlic cloves - 5
Onion - 1 piece
Curry leaves
Tamarind - 2 pieces (soak in little water)
Red Chilli - 5 to 7 (Dry roast in oil)
Water
Salt to taste
Mustard
Oil
Method :
Add
garlic, onion, curry leaves, tamarind, red chilly & salt to the grated
coconut and with little water and grind this to a fine thick paste. You can add more water in case you want the
chutney to be of pouring consistency.
Temper mustard & curry leaves in the oil and pour this in the
chutney. Serve with Idli / Dosa or any South Indian Dish.
