Takali (Tomato) Rasam in 5 minutes!
It was a long pending plan to go shopping with Vani to Laxmi
Road.. There was Monsoon sale also at various shopping outlets! When ladies have to plan going out of the
house, we need to ensure that the breakfast / lunch etc. is ready for the
family... so that we need not rush back home to get back to kitchen.
I finished making breakfast for the kids and since Rajesh was
holidaying with friends in Goa, I did not have to make lunch for anyone as Vani
had arranged for lunch at her house for the children.
We did some window shopping and also picked up some clothes
for ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed the break... We just had some snacks in
the afternoon... By the time, we reached home, I was very hungry... Vani's
mother was at home and she forced me to have lunch. She served us with Steaming hot Rice, and
Takali (Tomato Rasam) and a dry vegetable.
It tasted so good... I felt energetic after eating food :). I thanked Aunty and also noted down the
recipe from Vani which her sister in law who resides in Germany had given to
her.
I made it for my family recently, and I served this with Udid
Wada in the morning and also had it for lunch in the afternoon!. My friends at office also demanded for the
dish and I had taken it during lunch time for them!
It just takes 5 to 6 minutes to make this Rasam.... so do
give it a try and leave your feedback!
Ingredients :
2 to 3 big Ripe Tomatoes (cut into large pieces)
2 tbsp - Cumin Seeds
1.5 tbsp Pepper Powder (you can increase / decrease the
spice)
Garlic - 5 to 6
Curry leaves - 8 to 10 leaves
Cumin, Mustard & Asafetodia
Oil - 1 tsp
Coriander leaves - 3 tbsp
Water - 2 Glass
Salt to taste
Method:
Wash and cut the tomatoes into large pieces. Add the Cumin Seeds, Pepper powder / corns
& Garlic and grind to a fine paste.
Do not add water. Transfer the
ground tomato into a Kadai, add asafetodia and salt and 2 glasses of water and
allow this mixture to boil well. Add the
curry leaves and coriander leaves and boil for another 2 minutes. In a kadai, add 1 tsp oil and add the Cumin,
Mustard, Asafetodia & curry leaves and transfer this to the Rasam and mix
well. Serve with steaming hot rice, Udid
Wada or simply have it like a soup! This is excellent to consume when you have
cold and also soothing for this rainy season!
