Bread Upma

With the reopening of school, all mother's have a tough time with demanding children asking them to make dishes that they see their classmates carry in the tiffin :).  Today , I will share with you a simple Upma recipe which is made from bread.

If your children are bored of eating bread toast / sandwiches, this is a very tasty and delicious breakfast that can be made in a few minutes time. It can be prepared with left over bread also.

Bread Upma is one of the peppiest ways to have bread! Although it is a great way to use up leftover bread, I get the fresh bread to just make this Upma :).  You will definitely enjoy the unique texture of this Upma, which can be had as a breakfast or evening snack.

All the ingredients would be readily available at home... So do try this out and bring a smile to your children's face!

Ingredients :

Bread crumbs - 3 cups
Finely cut onion - 1/4th cup
Cubes of boiled potato -1/2 cup
Green Peas - 1/4th Cup
Roasted Groundnuts - 1/4th cup
Ground green chilly paste - 2 tsp or roughly chopped green chillies - 2
Cumin, Mustard & Asafetodia
Curry leaves - 4 to 5
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt, sugar and lemon juice to taste
Fine Shev for garnishing
Fresh grated coconut
Coriander leaves
Oil 2 tbsp

Method :

In a kadai add the oil.  When the oil is hot, add Cumin, Mustard & Asafetodia.  Now add the onion and saute for some time till the colour changes.  Now add the peas and potatoes, peanuts, green chilly paste, curry leaves, turmeric, salt and saute well.  Cover this for few minutes so that the peas are cooked. Now add the bread crumbs and mix well.  Sprinkle some water to this mixture and close the lide and cook for 2 minutes.  Add sugar and lime juice.  Garnish with coriander leaves and fine shev and serve hot.

You may cut the bread pieces into small pieces and put them in the mixer to make the crumbs or can break them into small pieces with the help of your hands.
