Bread Upma
With the
reopening of school, all mother's have a tough time with demanding children
asking them to make dishes that they see their classmates carry in the tiffin
:). Today , I will share with you a
simple Upma recipe which is made from bread.
If your
children are bored of eating bread toast / sandwiches, this is a very tasty and
delicious breakfast that can be made in a few minutes time. It can be
prepared with left over bread also.
Bread Upma is
one of the peppiest ways to have bread! Although it is a great way to use up
leftover bread, I get the fresh bread to just make this Upma :). You will definitely enjoy the unique texture
of this Upma, which can be had as a breakfast or evening snack.
All the
ingredients would be readily available at home... So do try this out and bring
a smile to your children's face!
Ingredients :
Bread crumbs - 3 cups
Finely cut onion - 1/4th cup
Cubes of boiled potato -1/2 cup
Green Peas - 1/4th Cup
Roasted Groundnuts - 1/4th cup
Ground green chilly paste - 2 tsp or roughly chopped green chillies - 2
Cumin, Mustard & Asafetodia
Curry leaves - 4 to 5
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt, sugar and lemon juice to taste
Fine Shev for garnishing
Fresh grated coconut
Coriander leaves
Oil 2 tbsp
Method :
In a kadai add the oil.
When the oil is hot, add Cumin, Mustard & Asafetodia. Now add the onion and saute for some time
till the colour changes. Now add the
peas and potatoes, peanuts, green chilly paste, curry leaves, turmeric, salt
and saute well. Cover this for few minutes
so that the peas are cooked. Now
add the bread crumbs and mix well.
Sprinkle some water to this mixture and close the lide and cook for 2
minutes. Add sugar and lime juice. Garnish with coriander leaves and fine shev
and serve hot.
You
may cut the bread pieces into small pieces and put them in the mixer to make
the crumbs or can break them into small pieces with the help of your hands.
