Masala Oats Porridge - Tasty & Healthy!


This post is for all friends and readers who are on a diet control and find it  really difficult to fight the cravings.


How about having a warm bowl of something hot, spicy and tasty which is comforting to the taste buds when on a diet restriction?   It's tastes amazing when consumed piping hot. 

The secret to satisfy your taste buds and aid your dieting, is to make Masala Oats Porridge using  the diet friendly ingredient Oats... There are many other recipes  on my blog that I have posted which you can make with Oats.

Masala Oats Porridge is a nutritious recipe with an Indian twist, with Oats and vegetables, spiced with masala and garnished with chopped coriander leaves.

One of my colleagues, Payal Minhas would mostly have Oats Porridge for breakfast.  She cooked Oats with milk / water.  When I told her that I make the Masala version of Oats at home, she said please share the recipe Prema...:).  Payal - I am sure you will enjoy this version of Masala Oats!

This dish is a bowl of goodness which is perfect for diabetics. Oats has  beta-glucan, a soluble fiber that helps in lowering cholesterol and hence is good for people with High blood cholesterol levels too.

This is a good option for kids and grownups. Try including some oats in your regular diet and get benefited in many ways.

This is an easy recipe which is made with lots of veggies, throw in some spice powders, add oats and cook until done and serve hot!  Isn't it easy?

I prepare this spicy porridge very often for breakfast and the Sweet Oats Porridge for my daughter Ria.     So... no more compromises when you have a hungry tummy and a demanding taste bud...try this masala porridge which is tasty and healthy!

After trying this recipe, you won't reach out for the packed Masala Oats available  in the stores .  Prepare your own homemade masala oats and have fun by customizing the recipe with your choice of veggies!



Ingredients :

Quaker Oats - 6 to 7 tbsp
Carrot - 1/2 pc grated
Cabbage - 1/2 cup grated
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Oregano - 1 tsp
Black Pepper Powder - 1 to 2 tsp
Salt to taste
Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
Red Chilli Powder - 1/2 tsp
Water - 2 glass (you can add / reduce water as required)
Milk - 1/4 Cup
Corriander leaves
Grated Cheese (optional)
Oil - 1 tbsp

Note : You may add finely chopped beans, peas, cauliflower etc. or any other vegetable of your choice to this Porridge.

Method :

Heat oil in a pan and add the Cumin seeds.  Now add the vegetables and stir fry it.  Pour water and add Oregano, black pepper, Garam masala, Red Chilli powder and salt.  Allow it to boil for some time.  Now add the Oats and cook it well and stir occasionally.  Add the milk and mix well.  Garnish with fresh Corriander leaves and grated cheese (which is optional) and serve hot!
