Instant Kalakand - Indian Milk Cake

Holi, the festival of colors is round the corner... It is celebrated with great enthusiasm and lots of fun!!

Every household celebrating the festival, will make a dessert to add sweetness to this day.  I am sure most of you are busy making plans and preparations to celebrate Holi in the 3rd week of this month.

Kalakand also know as Indian Milk Cake is very soft, crumbly and melts in your mouth.  I prepared Instant Kalakand following a recipe that I found on one of the food groups.  I made it for my Husband's birthday on 19th February.   He was really pampered on his birthday and I am sure he had a memorable day with all the surprises!

The traditional way of preparing this dessert is quite tedious...I followed the easy and simple method of making the dish and it was simply heaven on earth!!  The colour, the texture was just the same like the Sweet Mart.  The best part is, I also made the condensed Milk at home for preparing the sweet.

I am really excited to share this recipe with all of you.... You may try making it during Holi this year...Do post your comments and feedback!

Ingredients :

Condensed Milk - 300 gms
Yoghurt (curd) - 1/2 cup
Milk Powder - 150 gms
Dry fruits for garnishing
Cardamom Powder

Method :

Take a micro safe bowl and put in the milk powder.  Now add the yoghurt and milk maid and mix this well.  The mixture is thick.  Microwave this mixture for 3 minutes and remove it and mix it well.  Now add the Cardamom powder and mix it well.  Now microwave this for another 2 minutes.  You will now find that the water has evaporated and it has started forming lumps.  Again mix this well and finally microwave for another 1 minute and cook it.  So it took around 6 minutes to make it and you can now see the crumbled form of the dish.  There is a lovely aroma that spreads in the air while making this :).Transfer the Kalakand to the greased plate.  Garnish with dry fruits and press the mixture gently... Refrigerate the Kalakand for at least 2 hours.  Garnish with some rose petals and serve them to your loved ones!

Enjoy the yummy homemade Kalakand in just 6 minutes!
