Til Gud Ke Ladoo / Sesame Jaggery Ladoo
Come January and women all around the country
are gearing up to celebrate Haldi Kumkum, a ceremony where married women meet
and exchange Turmeric Powder and Vermilion.
This ceremony gives them an opportunity to do what every women loves –
dress up, go out, meet other women and bond with them. Some refreshments and gifts are organized by
the host during this event.
During this festival, a traditional sweet
(Ladoo) is made from roasted sesame seeds, jaggery, cardamom which makes this a
perfect aromatic sweet to bite into. Makar Sankranti would be incomplete
without this sweet . Sesame provides
heat and energy to the body which are both necessary to beat the cold in the
month of January.
Every year, ladies in our society arrange for
Haldi Kumkum and I am definitely looking forward to enjoy the festivities this
season!
Time to share the recipe with all of you
Ingredients:
Roasted Peanuts – 1 cup
Roasted Sesame – 1 cup (roast on low flame till colour
changes lightly)
Almonds – ½ cup
Jaggery grated – ½ to 1 cup
(adjust jaggery as per your taste)
Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
Ghee – 2 to 3 tbsp
Milk – 1 to 2 tbsp
Method:
Roast the peanuts and remove the skin. Lightly roast the Sesame on low flame as
there are chances of them getting burnt.
Keep them aside to cool. In the meanwhile, powder the Almonds in a
mixer. Keep aside some roasted sesame
to coat the ladoos. Now also coarsely
grind the peanuts and Sesame. Take a Kadai
and add the ghee, when it is lightly warm put the ground almond powder and mix
well for some time. Now add in the
peanut and sesame powder and mix everything thoroughly. Add in the grated
jaggery and cardamom powder and when the powder is still warm, add in milk 1 to
2 tbsp and make lemon size balls and coat them with sesame seeds and store them
in airtight containers for further use.
I made around 35 ladoos with the above ingredients….it
all got over the next day J.
