Thalipeeth with Rice Powder

A very popular Maharashtrian dish Thalipeeth is made with a blend of various powdered grains together.. I enjoy this dish and end up ordering this most of the time we visit food malls / restaurant :).

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day....but with our busy lifestyles, most of us end up having cereal and milk or a fruit or some may also skip their breakfast... These amazing pancakes will keep you full for hours and ensure that you are very energetic to start your day!

I recently made Thalipeeth with plain rice powder and mixed this with onions, chillies & coriander leaves and flattened them with hands on the plastic milk bags and cooked them on greased tawa.  They are easy to make and tasty to eat!

So are you ready to jot down the recipe?

Ingredients:
2 cups rice flour
4 finely chopped onions
3-4 green chillies ground in a mixer
Finely chopped coriander - 1/2 bunch
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Ghee - 1/2 tsp
Water as required

Method:

Take a bowl and put all the ingredients except for ghee & water and mix well. Make this to a soft dough with the help of water.  Please ensure that you make the dough by adding little water at a time.  Add little oil to the dough and knead it well finally.  Now pour 1/2 tsp ghee to the dough and cover the same and keep aside for 15 to 20 minutes.

You may use a zip lock bag and moisten it with water and pat the thalipeeth on to it with your hand. I used plastic milk bags to pat the pancakes.  Make holes into the thalipeeth after you pat them.  These holes ensure that the Thalipeeth is cooked evenly.  Now heat a tawa and grease it with oil and pop the thalipeeth on the tawa.  Spread oil into the holes and around the thalipeeth and cover with a lid.  Remove the lid and fry this pancake on medium heat on both the sides till they have brown spots on them.

Enjoy this tasty dish with green chutney & tomato sauce..
