Guava Sherbet

Winter has set in and this is the season for some delicious guavas.

We have all enjoyed a plateful of this fruit sprinkled with chaat masala and also savoured it in different forms like jams, jellies and murabbas. Guava, popularly known as amrood in Hindi, packs an intoxicating strong-sweet

fragrance and a distinct taste. Loaded with tiny hard seeds at the center. Besides its unique flavour and fragrance, guava has been hailed as one of the super fruits due to the numerous health benefits it offers. It indeed is a  powerhouse of nutrients. This fruit is extraordinarily rich in vitamin C, lycopene and antioxidants that are beneficial for skin. Guavas are also rich in manganese which helps the body to absorb other key nutrients from the food that we eat. Guavas contain folate, a mineral which helps promote fertility. The potassium in guavas helps normalize blood pressure levels as well.

Since it contains about 80% of water, it helps keep your skin hydrated.  This exotic sorbet is a superb summer cooler. Light and refreshing, the guavas impart an unusual sweetness to this soothing sorbet.

Whenever I travel towards Abhimanshree society close to St. Joseph's girls school, Pashhan, I stop to buy Guavas and enjoy this juicy fruit which is very filling.  While we were in school, I remember the fruit seller selling the fruit outside our school and the fruit seller used to cut the fruit into four portions and apply salt and chilli mixture to it.   We enjoyed eating the fruit while walking home from school :)

I made Guava Fizz when Sandhya, my friend visited me.  This is made by adding Sprite or Limca to the Guava Juice.  It's a refreshing drink!
