Soft Til Gul Peanut Vadi - Sankranti Special

Wishing all folks a Very Happy & Prosperous New Year!!!  Cheers to health, happiness, and prosperity in 2022!

I celebrated the first festival of the year Makar Sankranthi which falls on 14th January by making Soft TilGul Shengdana Vadis (SesameJaggery Peanut Fudge) and GulPoli which is stuffed Roti with Sesame, Jaggery and other ingredients. This is a speciality of Maharashtra..

Started my morning with lighting the lamp and performing pooja and worshipping the Sun God… I and my Mom in law visited the Ayappa temple in the evening and offered prayers.  Makar Sankranti is celebrated in Kerala as thousands throng to see the Makara Vilakku (flame on Ponnambalamedu hill) near the Sabarimala temple when the Makara Jyothi, the celestial star appears in the sky.

Many have requested for the TilGul Vadi recipe so here is the detailed recipe:

Ingredients :

1 cup roasted peanuts

1 cup roasted Sesame seeds

1/4th cup grated and roasted dry coconut (Keep aside 1 tbsp for garnishing)

1.5 cups jaggery

1 tsp Elaichi powder (Cardamom Powder)

1 tsp ghee

Method :

Grease a plate with 1 tsp ghee and keep aside.  Heat a non stick Kadai / Pan and roast the coconut, sesame seeds and peanuts separately.  Reserve 1 tbsp of the roasted coconut for garnishing.  Powder peanut and sesame seeds separately in a mixer and add in the roasted coconut.  Add in Cardamom Powder and mix everything well.  In the same Kadai add in the jaggery and melt this well.. add in the powdered mixture and mix well.  Immediately transfer this into the greased plate.  With the help of a glass or flat surface container, level the mixture and garnish with the roasted coconut and while the mixture is still hot with the help of a knife mark the mixture into desired shape (do not cut it) and leave it aside to set for 30 minutes.  Soft Tilgul Peanut Vadi can be stored in airtight container and enjoyed to celebrate Sankranth!!

Do try the recipe and I would really be thankful if you can pin it or share this with your Facebook / Instagram or Twitter followers!  All it takes is a simple click on the “pin it” “like,” “share,” “tweet,” or Google+ buttons below the post. This will definitely keep me motivated.
