Crispy Rava Chakli

Hope you all enjoy reading the stories and also try out the recipes that I post.  It’s a great pleasure when someone tries out the recipe and sends me a picture of the dish.  I always believe “Sharing is Caring”!!

As promised, I am sharing the crispy Rava Chakli recipe with all of you… Chakli is one of the savoury item which is crisp and crunchy.  My nephew Aryan enjoys eating this snack. I am yet to make the next batch of them for him!

Ingredients:

Water : 1 cup
Rava (Semolina) : ½ cup
Roasted Besan – ¼ cup
Rice powder – 1 cup
Butter : 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Asafetodia (hing) – 1 tsp
Black and white sesame – 1 tsp each
Chilli powder – 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Oil – for frying

Method:

Take a bowl and add in water and bring to boil.  Add the butter and low the flame.  Now add in the rava and mix well till it forms a dough and water evaporates.  Keep it aside to cool.  Once this mixture is cooled add in roasted besan, rice powder, cumin seeds, black and white sesame seeds, chilli powder and salt.  Mix and crumble this mixture well.  Add in little water at a time and make a thick dough.  Allow this mixture to rest for around 10 minutes.

In the meanwhile heat oil in a frying pan on medium heat.  Grease the Chakli maker and star attachment disc. Place a handful of dough in the chakli maker, attach the handle and secure it tightly.  Take a tray for placing the chakli’s.  Roll the handle of the chakli maker in a circular motion and extrude the dough making the spirals and place them in the tray.

Once the oil is heated, check by dropping a tiny piece of dough.  If it floats to the top immediately means the oil to too hot.  Your dough should gradually float up.  Time to now fry the chakli’s until golden brown flipping them in between.  Place them on absorbent paper and get rid of excess oil and once they are cooled, store them in air tight container for further use.

Why wait till Diwali… get into your kitchen as all ingredients would be readily available to make this crispy Chakli’s..
